The latest Driesnote from Dries Buytaert, founder and project lead of Drupal, at DrupalCon Barcelona, completely blew my mind. He highlighted the progress with Drupal Starshot, and I have to say, this was one of the most incredible presentations I’ve ever seen. And I’m not saying that just because I’m a Drupal addict—this is pure madness!
Drupal Starshot: Progress in Recent Months
Just a few months after Drupal Starshot was announced, an actual development version was demonstrated at DrupalCon. The progress is unbelievable, with features set to redefine what’s possible with Drupal.
Here’s a quick look at some of the features presented:
- Events Recipe: A feature similar to Google Calendar, making event management seamless.
- SEO Recipe: Tools to enhance SEO, ensuring websites reach their audience effectively.
- AI Site Building Capability: This one really impressed me 🤯—AI-powered site building, which could completely change how we create Drupal websites.
- Accessibility Enhancements: Updates to ensure Drupal sites are inclusive and accessible.
- Experience Builder Alpha Release: The first alpha version of the Experience Builder was also demonstrated, promising to simplify building web experiences.
The Future Is Bright for Drupal
Dries also announced several new initiatives to elevate Drupal even further, with Drupal CMS 1.0 planned for January 15th, 2025, and Experience Builder 1.0 and Drupal CMS 2.0 coming the same year. These releases will undoubtedly skyrocket Drupal’s capabilities.

Drupal Starshot is all about democratizing Drupal—bringing its power to a broader audience by combining Drupal Core with additional modules to create a streamlined solution for website building. This strategy makes Drupal a serious competitor against popular platforms like WordPress, offering ease of use along with Drupal’s scalability and flexibility.
